Work Experience Pretty Sally Home Hardware

Wallan SC's great supporter, Pretty Sally Home Hardware, is hosting work experience students. Lachlan Muller, Cam Muller and Andrew Howard are being run off their feet cleaning, shelf stacking and providing general assistance in and out of the store. They are learning how important punctuality and reliability are.

Chloe Datson is learning a great deal about working in a busy pharmacy at Amcal Chemist Wallan. Her bright personality is impressing staff and customers.

All Year 9, 10 and 11 students and parents/ caregivers are required to attend the 2017 Tradeshow Information Evening. 2018 Subject Selection sheets will be distributed, Information sessions about VCE VET VCAL will be conducted. Course Counselling interviews will be made.

Meningococcal W Consent Cards

Insights into Medical Research Day

on Friday, 16 June 2017.

 

   

To celebrate Medical Research Week, the Gene Technology Access Centre (GTAC) and the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research presented a program for senior students with a demonstrated interest in science. Scott Yang, Kyle Anglog, Bailey Greenwood, Leianna Faulkner, Molly Piastri-Wells, Lachlan Mozina, Ruby Sommerville, Cameron Wilkie and Natasha Reddy fulfilled the role of medical researchers as they carried out a series of laboratory activities exploring the techniques and technologies used to investigate infectious disease. The students participated in identifying the genes that make Toxoplasma gondii infectious!

It's Crazy Hat Day

A huge thank you to our fantastic staff for getting behind our Crazy Hat Day. Not only did they decorate their hats with the theme of 'About Me' but they donated for the privilage.
Monies donated will go towards the VCAL Projects and also The Cancer Council.

Year 11 VCAL

Our Year 11 VCAL students have joined the throngs of 'high vis' uniforms happening at the College and have started building a picnic area with pizza oven. We are all looking forward to the warmer weather when we can share in the beautiful pizzas that will be cooked in the oven.

VET Meets With The Minister

The importance of Vocational Education and Training (VET) was discussed and acknowledged during a meeting at Wallan Secondary College between the Lower Hume VET Cluster, Central Ranges LLEN, the member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes and the Minister for Training and Skills the Hon. Minister Gayle Tierney. Minister Tierney spent time with the cluster finding out about the many challenges confronting schools in providing diverse pathways for their students. Her positive outlook and commitment to the sector was greatly appreciated by those in attendance.

Doctors in School Program is Coming

on Tuesday, 30 May 2017.

We are very excited about the soon to arrive doctors in school program. We are led to believe that our new purpose built building should arrive this week and early next week – weather permitting.

The building will form our new Wellbeing Hub. We will have a nurse here with us all day on Tuesday and a GP from 11am until 4pm on Tuesday.

The intended start date for this program is Tuesday 18th July.

We ask that all parent update the medical information of their students via our Compass portal or by ringing the general office.

Work Experience Totally Fit Gym

Zach Johns and Brayden Lovelace are getting fit while they work at Totally Fit Gym. They are learning all the things which need to be done behind the scenes and also getting involved in classes and early morning boot camps.

Owner of Reds Café Wallan is pleased with Kiera O'Dell's attitude and punctuality. Kiera is learning the art of table service and food preparation.

Taster Day

on Thursday, 22 June 2017.

Today, 540 students from years 4, 5 and 6 from the local feeder schools joined us at WSC.
They had a great time experiencing life at high school including participating in classes such as Science, Product Design, Indonesian, Information Technology, Art and Food Technology.

The students enjoyed a bbq lunch and finished the day with an exclusive pre-view of the College Production 'The Play That Goes Horribly Wrong'.

Attention Parents - 22nd June 2017

A reminder that Thursday 22nd June 2017 is our Taster Day for our upcoming 2018 Year 7's.
Due to the number of students who will be attending WSC, normal classes will not run and we will be offering an alternate program for our current Year 7, 8 and 9's on that day.

Year 11 and 12 Exams

on Monday, 05 June 2017.

Please be advised that students will not be permitted to arrive late or leave early during their exams. Students will be in normal classes or supervised study sessions when not in an exam.
Upon the completion of their final exam, students may be permitted to leave the College with a note from their Parent. All Year 11 and 12 students wishing to leave, are to see the Senior Management Team in the library. Students will only be allowed to leave if they have no outstanding work.

Compass Student Identification Card

Could all students please ensure they carry their Compass Student Identification Card at all times. You will need to use your card to sign in when late and to sign out when leaving for an appointment or illness.

Congratulations to Ms Caroline Jory who was the successful bidder for our Thermomix Auction. Her bid of $1300 was the highest bid.
We thank everybody for particpating and look forward to putting the funds to very worthwhile Welfare projects for our students.

Student Free Day

Please be advised that Friday 9th June, 2017 is a student free day and students are not required to attend school.

On this day Teachers and ES Staff will be participating in Personal Development activities.
