Dear Parents and Caregivers,
This morning I spoke to all our students at Year Level Assemblies.
I thanked our students for an excellent start to the year and for the impressive and mature manner in which they were able to resume their focus on their studies after the awful disruption of the emergencies in the week prior to last.
I expressed my pride in them and in our school and I reiterated my message from the Assembly on the first day of school - it is going to be a great year at Wallan Secondary College.
I particularly congratulated our Year 7s on an excellent start to the school year.
I then shared with our students my plans for the year; I will be taking Leave on the 1st of May, through til the end of Term 3 / start of Term 4. During this time there will be an Acting Principal in place. The regional selection process for the Acting Principal will involve our College Council and will commence very soon.
At the start of Term 4 I will commence my retirement, after 33 years with the Department of Education.
During Term 3 our Region will undertake a statewide selection process for the person who will be the new Principal of Wallan Secondary College.
The Principal will start in the substantive role on the first day of Term 4, 2014.
My leave and subsequent retirement have been in the planning stages for quite a while, but I thought it important that we start the new school year with complete focus on our students' beginnings, above all else.
Today I explained to students that I expect no disruption to their year as this gradual process takes place.
There will be opportunities for me to say much more as my leave and subsequent retirement draw nearer.
At the moment I simply want to let families know of the message I gave in person to students today.
It is a monumental decision for me, as Wallan Secondary College has and will always be a huge chapter of my professional and personal life.
Suffice to say, I am privileged to have had the role of Founding Principal, and proud of the healthy, vibrant and successful school I will be handing on to the next leader.
