Breakfast Club – now open!

The Breakfast Club provides students with a FREE and NUTRITIONAL breakfast in a warm and friendly environment. The Club can be accessed by students every Monday from 7.50-8.35 in the Café on the Green.

Sponsored by Kickstart and Freedom Care and run with the assistance of Nathan Randell from Wallan Gateway Church, the Breakfast Club got off to a roaring start with over 35 kids in attendance. Now in its fourth week, students continue to enjoy an assortment of fresh fruits, muesli bars, toast, milo, juice and cereal.

As well as being provided with a free breakfast, students can be entertained by music and an assortment of card games.

Ms Jebaseelan had a Breakfast Club when she was a student at high school, so she wanted to be involved in ours to be able to continue it. “It helped on cold mornings, the heating was great, and it was good to have the food available for students. Next time I’ll see if we can bring noodles too!”

Ms Feldtmann knows that “breakfast is important to help students concentrate”.

Mr L. Ellis has been helping out our Breakfast Club for the last two years. Mr Ellis has had conversations with students in class and lots don’t have breakfast or a healthy breakfast for a variety of reasons. Some students do not have food available in morning or sleep in. Mr Ellis has seen how the breakfast helps with their concentration.

Nathan Randell – Wallan Gateway Church - Youth Pastor (also a trade teacher of Kangan Institute) described how he is keen to be part of our local community. For young people out there in Wallan there’s nothing to do. He has seen how sometimes it means they make poor choices of behaviour. Nathan wants to be a part of helping young people of Wallan.

Students Cody O. Seth S. Jordan V. Phillip T-H stated that they like the Breakfast Club because of free food and hot chocolate. They enthusiastically claimed it is the “best thing ever happened at this school”. Their last school had it too. It’s great to “hang out with friends”.

Fathima M. Kiera S. Jessica D said ee like the free food, “the energy type stuff (milo, muesli bars) helps me get ready for school”. It’s warm in here. And Breakfast Club “helps me concentrate”.

Brodie B claimed that the free food is great. Milo keeps me warm and it’s warm in here.

Maddie O. said she likes that we have juice now (today apple juice). It would be cool if we had variety of juices.
