Term 4 started with the sad news of the death of one of our staff members – equity ESO Deirdre Mason. Deirdre worked in our equity program for a number of years and will be sadly missed. Many of our staff and students celebrated Deirdre's contribution to our College with a Celebration Ceremony. We were so proud of Ben and Nathan Netley and Daniel Canty who each told us about their favourite memories of their time with Deirdre. We thank Deirdre from the bottom of our hearts for her contribution to our College.
Our Year 12 cohort for 2014 ended the year with great celebrations, Dream Career dress up day, our Men's and Women's breakfast, a final assembly run by the Year 12 where Mr. Connor and I were "told" by our Principal for the day Sally Kurzke to dress up and read the speeches that were written for us and then their trip to Bounce for the final school excursion.
VCAA Exams for our Year 12 students began on Wednesday 29th October and continue until Friday 21st November (please see the timetable attached for your student's exam times).
A reminder to all parents and students that this year's VCAA Exams area all at the Scout Hall. The Scout Hall is a much quieter location for our students and we hope that it will assist them to concentrate and get the best results for them. We thank the Wallan Scout Group for allowing us to use their facility.
There have been some staffing changes or extension of short term staff contracts during the term.
The Assistant Principal Selection process is occurring. I hope to be able to inform the College community shortly of the outcome of this process. Planning for 2015 is well underway, preliminary allotments for staff have been developed and student timetables are being developed. Our senior students will have their timetables for the Step Up program. Our numbers for 2015 are looking great – we are crossing our fingers that we will "crack" the 600 mark this year.
Finally as we end the year the Leadership Team are preparing for DEECD priority review early in 2015. This review will look at many aspects of the school but will concentrate most specifically on school operations in terms of VCE study scores, Numeracy learning gains and student connectedness to school. It will be a busy time as we complete a School Self Evaluation and prepare further documentation for our VRQA check.
A reminder to all to put Tuesday 16th December in your diaries for our annual Presentation Night.
As always it is a pleasure to see our students preparing themselves for the next year level of their schooling, choosing subjects, developing pathways and maturing. I look forward to continuing to talk with them about all aspects of their young lives. Have a great month as we getting ready for Christmas to arrive.
