Indigenous Literacy Day was created to raise awareness of the importance of literacy for remote communities, where some people have additional barriers to developing English literacy skills.
The Indigenous Literacy Foundation supplies books and literacy resources for students and families in remote communities and encourages reading in schools. Their aim is to provide a level playing field so that all Australian children have the same opportunities to develop a life long love of reading.
To acknowledge the day, our Resource Centre has on display a range of Koorie themed books for students to access and have fun reading.
