Recognition for our VCAL Program

The Minister for the Environment and Climate Change and Minister for Youth Affairs, Ryan Smith MP, spent the morning with our VCAL students today.  The students were praised for their dedication and work in the community with Freedom Care and Edgar's Mission.

Ryan Smith spent the morning talking with our students about the VCAL program we run at WSC and the Peer Mentoring program involving primary school students at Wallan Primary School and Beveridge Primary School.  The Minister presented an Advance Certificate of Recognition to our Assistant Principal, Ms Sally Lasslett.

The morning was further celebrated with a morning tea.  Special guests included the Principals from both Primary Schools; Ms Ann Stevens, Ms Sandra Allison and Mr Steve Fernando, student representatives from the mentoring program, Ms Karen Kostas from Freedom Care and Ms Pam Ahern and Kyle from Edgar's Mission. Extra special guests included a very large black pig and a sheep who are also residents of Edgar's Mission.

As a community we should be very proud of our VCAL program.  Our coordinators, Mrs Christine Ellis and Mr Luke Ellis, work tirelessly to encourage and support the students.  The Senior and Intermediate VCAL students are wonderful young people who are a great example to others and who have grown immensely as valuable members of the College and the wider community.
