On Wednesday 6th September, four of our Year 10 students attended The Battle For Australia ceremony held at the Shrine of Remembrance. Originally, it was our intention to take a group of 40 students however with the predicted inclement weather; it was decided to take only those participating in the service.
The Battle of Australia commemorates the 75th Anniversary of 1942, of action in Darwin, Kokoda, Milne Bay and The Coral Sea. The service gave participants an opportunity to reflect on times past, hear the accounts of soldiers and remember those who defended our country in its time of need.
Ruby Sommerville was one of four selected Victorian students to complete a reading in front of a huge audience of dignitaries, invited guests and students. She spoke beautifully as she read a soldier's, with the 39th Battalion, account and showed no signs of nerves. Ruby received a certificate to commemorate the day from Mr Steve Moneghetti.
Lachlan Mozina, Leianna Faulkner and Riley Cook, whose Parent or Grandparent, are ex serving members, laid a wreath on behalf of Wallan Secondary College.
We are very proud of Ruby, Lachlan, Leianna and Riley who conducted themselves with dignity and showed great respect on such an occassion.
