Student Life

Camps and Activities

As the Camps and Activities coordinator for 2012/13, I have taken the opportunity to review the Wallan Secondary College camps program. In consultation with staff, students and leadership, I have composed the following document as an outline of the camps to be offered by Wallan Secondary College in 2013 and beyond in an attempt to spark interest in camps and reconnect students with staff and the curriculum offered by the school.

The document aims to provide readers with a wide ranging selection of camps at various years levels, in particular, focusing on each year level's requirements in terms of school engagement, connectedness of staff and students and educational value to their core and elective studies. In accordance with the WSC Camps Policy the offered camps uphold that:

Camps are seen as an integral part of the school curriculum as they enable students to explore, extend and enrich their learning and their social skills development, in a non-school setting. Camps may have a cultural, environmental or outdoor emphasis and are an important aspect of the educational programs offered at Wallan Secondary College.'

Additionally, the offered camps aim to;
  • To provide students with the opportunity to participate in a camping program that is linked to social and educational outcomes for students.

  • To provide shared class experiences and a sense of group cohesiveness.

  • To reinforce and extend classroom learning.

  • To provide a program that delivers skills and knowledge that may lead to a lifelong involvement in worthwhile leisure pursuits.

  • To provide a program that promotes self-esteem, resourcefulness, independence, leadership, judgement, cooperation and tolerance.

  • To further develop their problem solving and life survival skills.

  • To extend understanding of their physical and cultural environment.

I look forward to the staff, students and parent's ongoing support in promoting and participating in the 2013 camps program.
