Today, Wallan Secondary College was very proud to host the 2023 Young Leaders Day and of the involvement of our College Captains and Student Leaders in the event.
A fantastic and innovative Primary School Young Leaders Program, with over 200 students in attendance, the program has been running for a number of years now and is facilitated by 3 of the Student Support Services team from Goulburn Department of Education.
The objective of this program is to increase the skills of the students that have been awarded leadership roles within their school. Students selected include School Captains and Vice Captains, House Captains and Vice Captains, and any other students that schools may wish to send, with the majority in grade 6.
Currently there are 15 schools involved within three separate cluster areas across the Mitchell and Murrindindi Shires, giving students an opportunity to build relationships with peers from other schools. This program has also been identified as helping students transition into their local secondary college the following year, with the development of peer relationships.
College Captains: Wil Rice, Alexis McGuane and Jayde Waddell revelled in the opportunity to speak with the primary school students about their leadership journey and their hopes and wishes for the future. The experience gained by our Leaders in facilitating activities and promoting leadership to the next generation of high school students is invaluable for all concerned.
