The Global Young Leaders Conference is an exceptional opportunity for high school students to gain new perspectives on their world by immersing themselves in another culture and learning about global issues.
Our College Captains will join Students from 146 other countries as Global Scholars. They will visit International Embassies, participate in global issue workshops, engage with United Nations Speakers and distinguished diplomats, draft policy proposals, debate issues and work to pass resolutions at a Global Summit to be held at the United Nations Headquarters.
'The Leaders of Tomorrow Preparing for the Global Challenges and Responsibilities of the Future' is the theme of the conference. Within this theme, Students will focus on various areas of study, including global communication, the diplomatic community, peace and security, inter-dependency in the world, human rights ad the role of international organisations such as the United Nations.
Our Captains, by completing this program will also be eligible to receive a college credit from the George Mason University.
They will have the opportunity to visit the Whitehouse, Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial, World War II Memorial, Smithsonian Institute, Holocaust Museum, Chinatown, the Metropolitan Museum of Art (the Met), experience bustling Times Square, the Statue of Liberty, with a dinner cruise on the New York Harbor as part of their Presentation Evening.
This is an amazing opportunity for Lachlan, Ruby, Riley and Coen and for Wallan Secondary College as this will be the first time our students have been selected to attend.
They are four remarkable young people who have a positive attitude, a strong sense of responsibility and self motivation with an enthusiasm in helping others and a willingness to do their best. We at WSC definitely regard them as the Leaders of Tomorrow and the skills and knowledge they will gain by attending this conference, will not only benefit them but also the College and their fellow students.
As you can appreciate an opportunity such as this comes with a cost and in the coming weeks and months we will be asking our College and the wider Community to assist them in their fund raising efforts so that they may attend the GYLC. We hope that our Community will dig deep and help make their dream of making a difference, a reality for them.
Should anyone wish to sponsor, make a donation or provided assistance to help support Lachie, Ruby, Riley and Coen, please contact Ms Carol McLean (Business Manager) 0357 830300.
