In response to the impact of COVID-19 on our students’ education, Wallan Secondary College will be providing additional targeted learning support.
A recent report has shown that more than 10% of Victorian students were absent during the state’s first period of remote learning, resulting in a large number of students falling behind.
This additional support has been made available through the Victorian Government’s $250 million investment in the Tutor Learner Initiative (TLI). This funding will allow students to receive valuable educational support in small groups with a qualified teacher.
The program will be coordinated by Hannah Do and further supported by a number of the school’s educational support staff. The TLI team will work closely with literacy and numeracy classroom teachers to ensure the program upholds Victorian Curriculum standards while reflecting the lessons taking place in the classroom.
Students will be selected based on 2020 reports and achievement data as well as teacher judgement. Initially we will be targeting students in years 7, 9, 11 and 12 for both literacy and numeracy intervention. This decision supports our data, which indicates large areas of need especially as years 8 and 10 cohorts already receive additional literacy and numeracy support.
We look forward to building our TLI program and providing the support our students need and deserve. If your require any further information please contact Hannah Do at Hannah.firstname.lastname@example.org.
