Project Ready Crew

This time it was Wallan Secondary students experiencing all things trades with a visit to the CFMEU training and education centre in Port Melbourne.

We learnt about all the training they offer such as white cards, first aid, enclosed spaces, traffic control, dogging and rigging, safe asbestos practices and SO MUCH MORE.
It was great to hear about all the great work the union do to support trades, and in particular the young apprentices coming through the ranks by ensuring they are safe on site and paid & treated fairly.
After a quick stop for lunch, we were lucky enough to visit a live construction site which will later become QV Munroe, a 44 story apartment / hotel complex near Queen Victoria Market. We participated in an induction before riding the Alimak ( external elevator) to the very top. What an amazing view!!!
We saw multiple trades all working alongside each other and saw many WHS practices that we’ve recently learned about, being put into action.
The students were brilliant and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to get out of the classroom and explore life as a tradesperson.
A big thanks to Liam at the CFMEU for once again giving Project Ready students this great day out
