Student Leadership

At Wallan Secondary College all students are encouraged to develop their leadership skills in order to support fellow students and to benefit the wider community.

Opportunities to develop these qualities are provided through a range of learning experiences, both in their everyday school life and in targeted leadership programs.

There are many student roles throughout the year levels that offer support and leadership for other students in the school community, through house activities and specific fields of interest. Every student is encouraged to build their own sense of themselves as leaders.

All student leaders at Wallan Secondary College should demonstrate and model our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience.

With our College continuing to grow, at the end of 2022 the College made the decision to introduce another level to our Student Leadership Team. After consultation with previous College Captains, current students and staff, and College Council, 2023 saw the introduction of a new leadership hierachy which includes both College Prefects (Year 12) and College Captains (Year 11).

Whilst both our Captains and Prefects will represent the College at various events, the College Captains will work with their fellow students to introduce and implement programs identified through student voice. This will provide them with the opportunity over their final two years at the College, to see their programs come to fruition and the benefits to their peers.

Our College Prefects will support and mentor our College Captains as well as our Junior School students. They will be active within the College Community and play a major role in guiding our Student Leadership Team, which is made up of students from across all year levels.

Both College Captains and College Prefects are expected to take an active role in all aspects of the school community and work with others to achieve the best possible outcomes. They must be approachable, reliable and trustworthy, and their duties involve communication with staff and students, public speaking at assemblies and school events.

College Captains and College Prefects must be involved in a range of co-curricular activities and be positive role models for all students with regards to behaviour and presentation.
