International Friendship in Action!

Today, we were honoured to welcome 26 students from Honbetsu, Japan, visiting as part of the Mitchell Honbetsu Sister City Association. These wonderful students spent the week immersed in Australian life, staying with host families and exploring the sights of Melbourne.

On campus, they joined us for a fun-filled morning of cross-cultural learning and laughter. They took part in:
Food Tech, where they made iconic ANZAC biscuits
PE, where they hit the court for a lively game of basketball
English, where both our students and theirs explored Aussie slang and translated it into Japanese
It was absolutely thrilling to see students from opposite sides of the world connecting—laughing, learning, and building friendships, even with limited shared language. The morning was full of smiles, hand gestures, and plenty of charades as we all found creative ways to communicate.
Our students were especially thrilled to receive an invitation from the Japanese students to visit them in Japan! ??✈️ The WSC students were more than eager, with many already joking about packing their bags and planning their future trip!
The visiting students were an absolute delight, and we couldn’t be prouder of our own students—their positive behaviour, enthusiasm, and effort were exceptional.
A huge thank you to our amazing teachers/staff; Ms Munro, Ms Hegarty, Ms Tucker, Mr Prowd, and Mr Patterson, for going above and beyond to make the morning inclusive, engaging, and memorable for all. Your planning and passion made a real impact.
What a wonderful celebration of global friendship and cultural exchange! ??
