As we head into the end of the year, we’d like to remind our students and families about the importance of staying safe when travelling on e-scooters and electric bikes.
If you think e-scooters and electric bikes are a toy, think again’, boldly reframes the misconceptions that e-scooters and electric bikes are fun and frivolous ‘toys’ when in reality they’re powerful devices with serious consequences.
Please ensure that riders are:

Aged over 16

Wearing an approved helmet

Riding at safe speeds at or below 20 km/h

Following local road rules

Keeping an eye out for pedestrians and traffic

Avoiding distractions such as phones or headphones while riding

Ensuring their e-scooter or e-bike is in good working condition
To help keep our community safe, please be aware of the current penalties for unsafe or illegal riding:

Riding on the footpath: $305 fine

Doubling up (carrying a passenger): $254 fine

No helmet: $407 fine

Underage riding: $305 fine

Exceeding the 20 km/h speed limit: $356 fine

Using a handheld mobile while riding: $611 fine
E-scooters and e-bikes can be a convenient way to travel, but they must be used responsibly to keep everyone safe—both riders and the wider community.
Thank you for helping us promote safe travel habits!
