Our Koorie Students create with Merindah-Gunya

Our Koorie students, school staff, and Department staff had the wonderful opportunity to work alongside Merindah-Gunya to create a mural that represents our school community and the values we share.

 

Last year, our students began developing ideas for the mural by working with Merindah-Gunya on the initial concept. They carefully considered the colour palette, selecting blue as the dominant colour, complemented by earthy tones to reflect our connection to Country. The students also felt it was important to include vibrant pops of colour to represent the diversity and energy of our school community.

Our Koorie students then worked together to develop the meaning behind the mural and the story they wanted it to tell. They wanted the artwork to reflect the importance of school, community, and connection within Wallan Secondary College, highlighting the sense of belonging that brings us all together.

These ideas were shared with Merindah-Gunya, who used the students' inspiration to design a unique mural that beautifully captures their vision. This term, she returned to Wallan Secondary College to bring the design to life, creating a lasting piece of artwork that celebrates our shared identity, culture, and community.
